Work On 'A Kind Of Alaska'...

Our Stanislavski workshops have continued and we have learnt about the element of tempo rhythm. I found this very interesting because it is clear that it is an element and technique that is seen in all performances however it is rarely recognised.  I am finding that with all the concepts we discuss and focus upon in this unit, they are things that occur naturally acting in a role. However we are actually focussing on what comes naturally to performing a role. With tempo rhythm, is clear in performances such as, “The Death and Dreamlife of Elephants” where the character of Denis changes pace, yet we do not immediately assume that the element of pace changing is a technique; we assume that it comes naturally to devising the role.  In our “A Kind of Alaska” scene, Anna and I have attempted to work with two characters whose tempo rhythm is constantly changing and this has proven difficult. I however, find that if a number (in terms of speed) is written in the margin of my script, I will remember what pace I should be working up to or slowing down to.
