Rehearsals Continue...

Since we have been back at school we have had two Oleanna rehearsals. Unfortunately Hannah is on holiday and only joins us one day before we perform. Although this is a hindrance the upside is that she will be able to watch the scene with a fresh eye and having never seen it before, her comments will be extremely valuable. We have been rehearsing the scene with Sian stopping us to correct and offer criticism on our acting every time she feels it is necessary. We also performed excerpts for Mr Brown today and he said that it was the fight that was our main issue (the system was clearly visible in workings!) We need to find a way of bringing some rawness and true aggression to the fight which we always knew would be a challenge. Personally, what Mr Brown told me was really beneficial and eye opening, leading me to believe that in order to act as if I am really being hurt; I do need to be hurt, as well as being taken by surprise. Logistically this lead to my suggestion that if I am on the opposing side of the room to Joel, watching him approach me to hurt me, some part of my body will always tense up or give away a clue that I’m about to be hurt. If I am down on the floor and cannot see , I will be taken by surprise and therefore my response will be far more truthful. We are planning to begin our next lesson with some fighting and work-shopping so that we know how far Joel can really hurt me onstage. I am a little scared about it but I will have to learn how to hide these emotions until I am actually being attacked onstage, where I can 100% let them show.
