This week we spoke with Mr Brown who, after viewing a short excerpt from our scene, was not convinced that it would be the best choice to express the Stanislavskian system, nor to show off the acting abilities of every single group member. At first it was upsetting however after reflecting, something Mr Brown said, struck a chord within my mind. He said that sometimes we see a scene performed and it looks really good so we want to do it and emulate the characters within scene, yet it often just doesn’t work. Just looking back upon my ‘Initial Impressions’ now, I can see that we were so clearly in awe of the year 13 production, that we were trying to perform ‘their’ scene, without realising that it wasn’t really working with the Stanislavski system. This makes a lot of sense and it helped me to realise that in order to be able to perform well, we need to be working on another scene. Therefore we split into much smaller groups (which will enable everyone to have bigger roles) and now I’m co-directing a scene from the two-character- play Oleanna (by David Mamet) with Sian. Hannah and Joel are playing Carol and John; the student and university professor. Because of the production we will only be beginning our blocking in the holidays but it will give me time to read the play and prepare for my co-directorial role which I have never undertaken before. We have clearly got a lot of work to do, but (with Joel absent) Sian, Hannah and I chose a scene from the very end of the play where there is a lot of tension and potential for naturalistic acting.
