Last Artaud Rehearsals...

We decided to use red paint and smear it upon the cupboards, ready for the audience who are leaving ‘the train station.’ The use of ‘blood’ gives the scene more gruesomeness and is designed to make the audience uneasy. We have also decided that we will begin the scene in darkness because we want to completely confuse and scare the audience by making the scene begin with a fright. We have discovered that a way to create chaos within the audience is to ignore them completely when I am being thrown up against a wall by Greer. I just push through them as if they aren’t there and then after I’ve slapped her and turn to run, I try to scramble through the audience. I decided that this would be effective as the audience are being physically manoeuvred and pushed about, without warning which will make them feel very anxious. The fact that the room is so small also helps the intensity of the piece to be explored, and for the audience to be right up close to the action.
