Our Artaudian Scene...

So far this term we have been working on our devised Artaudian scenes in small groups. I think that our scene with be very effective at making the audience feel uncomfortable as we touch them, walk very close to them and ask them questions. It was the idea that when in class; you are asked a question you don’t know the answer to, you feel embarrassed and awkward; that sparked the means of questioning the audience as they enter the room under the stairs. I have found that being put on the spot and ‘physically violated’ e.g. touched by actors is extremely scary for an audience and very Artuadian! We have been working on performing instinctively and breaking away from any patterns. That is why our group hasn’t scripted our scene, it is entirely improvisational and it was created from an idea which we then got up and improvised scenes to. We also wanted to perform in an unusual space which would push the audience outside of their comfort zone.
