Over the last few lessons we have been focussing on the elements of physical theatre. I found it surprisingly powerful how deep emotions and symbols can be explored through the use of different poses with certain characters on top of others. As our scenes of a warrior returning home grew, we decided to enter the audience which broke the fourth wall and in true Artaud style, made the audience feel a little uneasy as to where our scene was going. Our scene concluded with the boys going behind the sound desk and entering a pretend elevator before crouching slowly down, and I slowly drawing the curtains at the front of the desk across my body was an experiment to see the audience reactions. This was completely random and out of context, leaving the audience all extremely confused and wondering what on earth was happening. Our act of randomness was very interesting as it showed me that true Artuadian work does not have to make sense, it can be completely irrational and spontaneous. This excersise has defiantly shown me that the scenes we are yet to do not have to entirely be literal, they can be anything we choose yet the audience will interpret them all different ways. People even tried to find meaning in our elevator ending, as they tried to rationalise and comprehend something that was incomprehensible.
